The WebEQ Authoring Environment

WebEQ is of necessity a work-around solution to the lack of a stable HTML 3.0 math standard, and HTML 3.0 math capable browsers. Hence, in order to allow authors write true HTML 3.0 documents, WebEQ provides an authoring environment that automatically generates the necessary WebEQ applet calls, and helps the author size the resulting applet windows.

To use the authoring environment, a user writes a genuine HTML 3.0 source file, using <MATH>, </MATH>, tags to delimit equations. The enviroment then

Each time the file is previewed, the authoring enviroment writes out an .html file with the necessary applet tags for viewing the document with a Java capable browser.

In this way, an author can write a source file for the HTML 3.0 capable browser of our dreams, and simultaneously generate an acceptable document viewable today with Netscape.
